Everything Old is New Again ...............
The Piper J-3 Cub is a small, simple, light aircraft that was built between 1937 and 1947 by Piper Aircraft.
With tandem (fore and aft) seating, it was intended for flight training but became one of the most popular and best-known light aircraft of all time. The Cub's simplicity, affordability and popularity invokes comparisons to the Model T Ford automobile. Its standard yellow paint has come to be known as “Cub Yellow” and now the time has come to relive a little history with the introduction of the Savage Cub into Australia.
The Savage Cub went into production in Italy between 1997 and 1998. The idea, was to create an aircraft with good STOL performance, classic design and good handling that would be economic and easy to both build and repair.
A weakness for one of the legends of 20th century aviation - the Piper Cub - drove the designer of the SAVAGE and his team, aeronautical engineers Bonaldo, Franchini and Vizzini (the latter had worked at Aeritalia, and spent a long period at Boeing in Seattle before moving on to AERMACCHI) to build several prototypes that would become the basis for the Savage Cub we know today.
Calculations with the most sophisticated aeronautical programmes, static and in-flight tests were to confirm the excellent validity of the design to the extent that it went on to win, during its first official showing (at the CAP meet at Carpi, Italy in 1999), first prize as best microlight to be built from blueprints only.
Since1999 the construction (which utilises the best aeronautical materials from the USA, Italy and France) moved in the Czech Republic and it is carried by the aeronautical company ZLIN AVIATION, specialist in 1st-2nd-3rd level civil aviation maintenance and restoration of vintage aircraft.
The workers at Zlin Aviation are fully qualified and have gained extensive experience in the country´s most important aeronautical companies (Moravan, Let, etc.).
The production line features a whole series of product quality controls and construction checks. These are carried out by technicians whose signature confirms that each aircraft has been fully tested and certified. The aircraft has several type approvals in different countries.
Imagine flying down to your local "special place" for an afternoon beside the beach or the river. These dreams are fully possible with the Savage Cub. With the excellent short field takeoff and landing performance, rugged undercarriage and fantastic visibility, this aircraft will make your dreams a reality. Doubt what i am saying..... ? Then make sure you see the DVD which features some of the best flying you will ever see.
