XCOM Avionics - About US

XCOM Avionics is a small Gold Coast electronics manufacturer based on Australia's east coast.

Whilst the XCOM team is small in numbers we utilize a manufacturing company for our production who is also an accredited electronics manufacturer for companies like Boeing. They manufacture XCOM products under controlled conditions complying with ISO 9002 accreditation as well as other PMA and TSO accreditation. The product we supply is as good as anywhere you would get elsewhere in the world and we back this up with either a 12 month or optional three year manufacturers warranty.The XCOM team is primarily consisted of the following key personnel.

  • Ken Luxford is our head engineer with more than 30 years in Avionics development and a strong background with Motorola and other VHF manufacturers, Ken also oversees our day-to-day manufacturer, liaison with key personnel and looks after our warranty centre.
  • Phil Allen is our head software engineer. Phil currently contracts through Microsoft to the Australian taxation office implementing new systems which can assist the ATO in evaluating new equipment and detecting fraud etc.  Phil has been on the XCOM project since 2003 and brings a wealth of programming knowledge with him, Phil also assists in flight testing the XCOM transceiver.
  • Andy Beales is our harness engineer.  With more than 40 years with Motorola and the RAF and he brings a wealth of industry knowledge to our project and produces the custom harnesses for our customers and dealers, he also assists with special installations in unusual aircraft.
  • Michael Coates is the owner of XCOM Avionics, Michael's contribution is in sales and marketing and was also the original concept designer of the XCOM VHF radio.  Flying for more than 25 years he also does the company's flight testing.
